The Transponder Tester is a portable microprocessor
controlled device designed to display the identification of
a functioning type 3 Union Switch & Signal transponder.
Transponders are passive devices, designed to be
activated from a 200 kHz signal emitted from a cab
reader system. When activated, a functioning
transponder will radiate a 27 mHz signal that contains a
10 digit unique identifying number. The cab reader
system then receives and decodes the 27 mHz so that
passenger announcements may be made that are
tailored to specific locations.
The tester essentially duplicates the functions of the cab
reader system. It will activate a transponder as well as
receive and decode the 27 mHz signal from the
transponder. If a transponder is operational, the tester
display will show the identification characters of the
transponder.
In addition to displaying transponder identification
numbers, this portable tester automatically displays
