Densometer (Gurley)

Model 58-03 measures air permeability (Gurley type) of sheet like materials including Paper, Paperboard and nonwovens. Porosity of paper or density is an important measurement when simulating conditions where paper is picked up under vacuum.

Air resistance by the Gurley method measures the amount of time in seconds for a specific volume of air to pass through the voids in a sheet of paper under a specified clamping pressure.

The Gurley type porosity tester is similar to the Bendtsen air permeance tester, see catalog # 58-21 Roughness and Air Permeance Tester.

Esiproof

The Esiproof is a precision instrument for producing realistic, high quality flexographic proofs. Applications include color proofing for both customer approval and spectrophotometer readings. Use of a doctor blade enables the proofing of all flexo inks, including high viscosity, UV curing. Both steel and ceramic anilox rollers are easily interchangeable.

Hand Coater

The K Hand Coater provides a simple but effective means of applying paints, printing inks, lacquers, adhesives and other surface coatings onto many substrates. Two or more coatings can be applied side-by-side in a single operation making the system ideal for comparing products.

The K Control Coater is recommended when repeatability is critical such as computer color matching or when a number of operators will be carrying out the test work. This automatic machine has variable speed and a constant pressure exerted between the bar and substrate. (see K Control Coater data sheet)

Ink Rub Tester

The Digital Ink Rub Tester is designed to measure scuffing or rubbing resistance. Several tests can be performed
including dry rub-the amount of transfer ink from one dry surface to another, wet rub-the amount of transfer of ink from wetted surface to another, wet bleed or transfer-ink transfer to a water-saturated blotter, wet smear-similar to wet bleed with the addition or rub cycles, functional rub/wet rub-smear or transfer tests using a liquid other than water and hot abrasion. An optional heated weight provides a uniform test for evaluating “hot abrasion” resistance of printed cartons, labels etc.

Laray Viscometer

The Laray Viscometer determines the viscosity of a wide range of liquids and viscous materials by measuring the time required for a rod to travel a specified distance. Viscosity is calculated from this time.

Multicoater

The K303 Multicoater is used to make accurate and reproducible prints and coatings of a wide range of products on many different substrates. The heads illustrated are fully interchangeable in a matter of minutes providing Gravure, Flexo and exceptionally accurate surface coatings and laminations. One can detect the smallest difference in products because two or more samples may be printed or coated side by side under identical conditions. As a standard gravure proofer it's often used in laboratories for quality control on all ink/substrate combinations for color comparison but also for determining factors such as printability and adhesion.

Novo-Gloss GlossMeter

The Novo-Gloss 20/60/75ºS gloss meter is a fully featured instrument measuring the gloss of surfaces. The 60º angle is the reference angle and can be used to measure any surface from matt to mirror finish. To complement this the instrument also has 20º angle for improved measurement on high-gloss surfaces and 75º which gives improved resolution on matt surfaces. With built in statistical analysis, memory and the ability to download results to a PC the instrument has all the features you will ever need for fast accurate gloss measurement. The 60º can be used for measuring printed substrates, the 20º gives improved resolution on high-gloss coating and foil boards. The 75º TAPPI is the standard measurement angle for gloss in the paper industry.

Novo-Gloss Trio

The Novo-Gloss Trio Glossmeter is a fully featured, extremely easy to use instrument measuring the gloss of all flat surfaces.

The 60º is the reference angle and is be used to measure any surface from matt to mirror finish. To complement this the instrument also has 20º for improved measurement on high-gloss surfaces and 85º which gives improved resolution on matt surfaces. Parker Print-Surf (Dual Head)

Developed from Dr. John Parker's original method, the Parker Print-Surf is a microprocessor-controlled instrument, which performs high speed, precision measurements of paper surface roughness under conditions that simulate those encountered during the printing process. PPS Calibration Kit

The Parker Print-Surf (PPS) Test and Calibration Set enables the instrument user to make statistically valid calibration checks traceable to the reference instrument. Taber Linear Abraser

The Taber® Linear Abraser incorporates a "freefloating head" that strokes in a linear motion and can test virtually any size or shape- flat, concave or convex. Interchangeable attachments can be used to convert the instrument from a Wear Tester to a Scratch Tester, Crock Meter or custom configuration. Taber Rotary Abraser

Taber abrading wheels produce characteristic rub wear action Mounted to a rotating turntable, specimens are subjected to the rub-wear action of two abrasive wheels. Driven by the test sample, the wheels produce abrasion marks that form a pattern of crossed arcs over a circular ring approximately 30 square centimeters. This reveals abrasion resistance at all angles relative to the weave or grain of the material. Referenced in numerous international test standards and specifications Simple to operate, this instrument has been accepted worldwide as a standard for wear and abrasion research, quality and process control, materials evaluation, and product development. Taber Stiffness Tester

Precision instrument evaluates material stiffness The Stiffness Tester utilizes a two directional pendulum-type weighing system to evaluate material stiffness, flexural strength, resiliency and elasticity properties. Force is applied to the lower end of the specimen by a pair of rollers attached to the driving disc. The resulting torque tilts the pendulum from its vertical position and a Taber Stiffness Unit reading (g.cm) is taken automatically when the pendulum mark aligns with the appropriate driving disc mark (71/2° or 15°). Predetermined sample length, deflection angle and rate of loading provide accurate and reproducible test results.

Print Simulation Tester

What is a "relevant surface smoothness" test? When printing in rotogravure, offset and flexography, print areas without sufficient contact will result in "missing dots" appearing as white areas or colour changes. In contrast to air leak methods, the PST instrument offers detailed information across the entire test area. Furthermore, these test results are obtained at the relevant nip load and contact time, which is not possible with optical, non-contacting methods. Until now established methods to determine the surface topography all fail to provide relevant data as current methods are not carried out under the conditions occurring inside a printing nip. The innovative PST instrument simulates a range of different press types, nip loads and web speeds and it eliminates the influence from a printing ink, as no ink is being used in this test.

ACT Automatic Cobb Tester

This innovative principle offers a completely new opportunity to characterize and understand the phenomena of dynamic water absorption. Here the water uptake is continuously monitored across a full 100 cm² area of sized paper or board as a function of time. Apart from the total amount of absorbed water over 60 seconds, this technology reveals the different dynamic components of water absorption. Once the operator has inserted the test specimen, the test is done automatically by the instrument as no weighing or blotting of the specimen is required. This way the regular operator time of three minutes for a 60 second Cobb test is reduced to only a few seconds for loading of the specimen.

Microscope (Digital Pocket)

The 68-86 Digital Pocket Microscope delivers crisp, clear high-resolution colour images with a resolution up to 1280x1024 pixels. The integrated LED illumination can be switched on/off, which allows optional illumination for special investigations. The button on the DPM is pressed to capture an image. With the DPM placed directly upon a surface, the focus wheel has two positions giving different magnification levels.
