Internal Bond Tester

The Internal Bond Tester is designed to determine the internal bond strength of a variety of Paper and Board materials according to TAPPI T 569. The instrument design is based on a falling pendulum which creates a high speed impact on a paper specimen. The paper specimen is sandwiched between two double-coated tape substrates. The pendulum impact measures the total energy required to delaminate the internal fibers of a specimen in a Z type direction into two separate piles. The system also incorporates an automatic sample preparation station which allows five specimens to be accurately prepared simultaneously. The Prep Station requires a filtered air supply meeting IG4 Industrial Grade Air: ISO Class 1-4-1.

Bekk Smoothness Tester

The Automatic Bekk Smoothness Tester is a microprocessor-controlled instrument for the determination of smoothness of paper and board according to the Bekk Method.

This air leak smoothness test is useful for very smooth surfaces, for example, coated label papers, coated free sheet, or other very smooth papers. Test results generate with the Bekk tester have shown excellent correlation with print smoothness evaluations using offset ink. Likewise, Bekk results have shown good agreement with subjective evaluations of low angle illuminated surface photomicrographs. Surface integrity is particularly important for printing papers. The surface fibers must be sufficiently bonded to those beneath the surface and the coating bond to the fiber matrix must be sound.

Taber Stiffness Tester

The Stiffness Tester utilizes a two directional pendulum-type weighing system to evaluate material stiffness, flexural strength, resiliency and elasticity properties. Force is applied to the lower end of the specimen by a pair of rollers attached to the driving disc. The resulting torque tilts the pendulum from its vertical position and a Taber Stiffness Unit reading (g.cm) is taken automatically when the pendulum mark aligns with the appropriate driving disc mark (71/2° or 15°). Predetermined sample length, deflection angle and rate of loading provide accurate and reproducible test results.

With this machine, a pliable specimen is placed under a constant tension load. The specimen is then folded to an angle of 135° in either direction, at the rate of 175 double folds per minute until the specimen is severed at the crease. The Square-Foot Paper Cutter - TMI 22-03-02 - is devised to give accurately cut samples for testing all kinds of lightweight paper to a .005 in. tolerance.

The Heavy Duty Square-Foot Paper Cutter - TMI 22-03- 01 - will cut an accurate square-foot sample of heavy paper board, such as 42-pound and 69-pound Kraft, Bleached Kraft, pulp or multi-ply cylinder board. The machine will cut 16 sheets of 42-pound liner and 10 sheets of 69-pound liner.

The Square-Foot Paper Cutters cannot slip or vary sizes of the samples to be cut. The sheets to be trimmed are held firmly in place until released. Remove the question of weight adjustments due to error of sample accuracy. It saves time as well as assures precision.
