TMI Group announces the retirement of Michael Moore

The TMI Group of Companies is sadly announcing the retirement of Michael Moore on March 31, 2010.
Mike Moore was born, raised and still lives in Southern England. He has a wife named Maureen, two children, both of whom work in law enforcement, and two grandchildren, aged 9 and 4. Mike enjoys cooking, drinking fine Scotch and supporting live music but his major passion is maintaining and shooting his collection of antique breech loading rifles.
Mike started his career in 1963 after completing his tertiary education in Physics and Computer Science at the Croydon College and Merton College of Technology. Here is a brief summary of Mike's achievements throughout his long career.
- Involved in papermaking process research and development for Pira International (previously the British Paper and Board Research Association) 1963-1985
- Headed design team for the model PPS 90 Parker Print-surf - the market leader in PPS type instrumentation. 1990
- Set up Messmer Quality Assurance programme and Calibration Laboratory. 1990
- Designed, built and programmed the first Messmer single-station Test-Line data acquisition unit. 1985
- Negotiated the sale, build and installation of first multi-station Test-Line. Papeteries de Golbey, France. 1991
- In charge of development, sales and installation of Test-Line product. 1990-96
- Headed R&D team responsible for developing WebForm - a unique on-line web monitoring and diagnostics system recently launched by Messmer Büchel. The system is patented in 7 countries.
- Guest lecturer at CTP, Grenoble, France and Taiwan Forest Products Institute.
- Member of United Kingdom delegation to ISO/TC6 since 1984.
- Headed the PM&C team to be awarded and retain the A2LA accreditation. 2003
- Author of several papers on testing and instrumentation for Tappi, Japan Tappi, Pita, Appita, Pira, CPPA, Eucepa and SPCI.
We asked Mike for a list of his memorable moments from his career.
Most interesting Messmer project: "The development of TestLink - Mesmer's automatic in-line testing system. I personally sold the first multi-unit system (Papeteries Golby SRL) while it was still only a concept. I then supervised the design, build and installation."
Most interesting TMI project: "The practical application of instrumentation to tissue softness evaluation."
Most gratifying role at Messmer: "Being in overall charge of new product development for Messmer and Büchel, resulting in products which are still in demand today."
Most gratifying role at TMI: "Being in charge of the most professional team in the whole organization."
Mike Moore said "What I like most about both companies is the "family atmosphere". In small companies it is possible to personally know all of one's colleagues and thus have a better understanding of their personalities and capabilities. Strong leadership by owners who are personally involved in the day to day running of the business shortens lines of communication and avoids misunderstandings."
